About Us
Welcome to the Vernon Church of Christ!
For more than four decades, our church has been a home for believers in Vernon, British Columbia. We warmly welcome visitors to experience a worship service where ordinary people encounter our truly remarkable God.
Our heart is captured in our slogan: “Knowing God and Making Him Known.” We strive to live this out in all that we do:
-
Knowing God: We come to know Him intimately through the inspired truth of the Bible and through the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit, who guides and empowers us.
-
Making Him Known: We make Him known by living lives of devotion and service, joyfully sharing the good news of God’s grace, the assurance of heaven as our eternal home, and the hope of Jesus’ return in both judgment and salvation.
As a community, we encourage one another through:
-
Discipleship: Following Jesus together on our faith journeys.
-
Evangelism: Sharing the good news through both our words and actions.
-
Fellowship: Finding strength and connection in our community.
-
Ministry: Caring for our church family and the wider community.
-
Worship: Lifting our voices and hearts to God, both in our gatherings and in our individual lives.
We always have room for more, and we invite you to join us on this journey of growing closer to God.
WORSHIP
We believe that the gathering of the church should be like a family. Visitors are always welcome as our special guests.
In our services, we follow the example of Christians in the New Testament. Our Sunday morning service consists of singing, praying, sharing the Lord’s Supper, Bible reading, giving and preaching. Please feel free to participate as much or as little as you feel comfortable.
LORD'S SUPPER
The Lord’s Supper is a memorial of Jesus’ great love for us in His sacrifice on the cross.
The Lord’s Supper is the focal point of our worship service, and because of its importance and meaning, we observe the Lord’s Supper every Sunday. We see this example in the first century church. Acts 20:7
SINGING
We sing here – “Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord” Eph. 5:19
Everyone is encouraged to sing.
We are “a cappella” (meaning unaccompanied).
GIVING
Giving is part of our response of love and gratitude to God. This participation allows us to do more together than any one of us can do on our own while showing our commitment to the congregation and its goals.
Each of our activities and ministries are funded by the free-will contributions of our members.
Any gift given to the church should be given freely, not because of expectations or pressures.
